The YEGN workshop is an idea developed by PhD-students from the University of Bern and Umeå University in 2016, with the goal of creating a space for young scholars in economic geography and closely related disciplines from different countries to present and discuss their work and their ideas with peers. Save the date and place for the next YEGN Workshop: 25-28 August 2025, at the University of Greifswald, Germany. More information about this workshop will be available soon. In the meantime, have a look at our previous workshops in Cork, Umeå, Cologne, Goslar, and Bern.
The purpose of the workshop is to assemble students in different phases of their career and from different national backgrounds, so that fruitful exchange will occur and diverging experiences can be maximized. Further, we aim to build a network among the participants of the workshop that doesn’t fall apart once the workshop is over. Especially for young scientists, contact and exchange with other researchers is crucial but difficult to achieve. Hence, we do not only invite young scholar still in academia but also new PhDs that are working with research at different institutions.
The workshop aims to 1) give the participants the opportunity to present, discuss and get extensive feedback on their on-going work, in a forgiving milieu with only PhD-students, 2) facilitate networking among young economic geographers from different countries, and 3) discuss concepts and cutting edge research trends regarding regional development, innovation and inequality with peers.
